ABOMINATION!

ABOMINATION!

Mother Nature, do wake up!
Your subjects, against you, are rebelling
I say it is high time you spoke up
Damn the west, answer my calling

I see things, most strange and sad
My eyes have become weary,
Men and beasts have switched sides
Oh! My poor, frail heart is heavy

Cast judgment, Mother Nature!
Truly, nobody is not blameworthy
Not the ‘brilliant’ Professors in academia
Not the ‘custodians’ of God’s Holy dwelling

Some make bold to say ‘nude is better’
‘In fact, we need clothes no longer’
‘If you want to show your aplomb’
‘Damn shame, march as you were born’

I say, if nudity were a true emblem,
Of concrete confidence and acute acumen
It only follows, that rats and monkeys
Are more refined than haughty humanity

I see things, most strange and gloomy
Things I wish I never did see
Those thought as most chaste in the city
Wear sparse clothes tighter than the skin

How low we have come to stoop
How high we have reached in guilt
Ah! Man has left his alluring half
And doth make love to his equal kind

Such evil, such taboo, such abomination!
Enough to wipe out the Pacific Ocean
So great, mountains crumble in shame
Birds heard and lost their voice amazed

Even swine and brutes are not as silly
To stray from Mother Nature’s decree
Then proclaim to the world that is healthy
A right to be mad, to be free from sanity

Day by day, worse and worse
How I fear for the unborn successors
If this day can like this be
I wonder what the morrow will bring

SEASON OF WAR

image

I’m so glad to be posting this, as it is (embarrassedly) my first ever written Shakespearean sonnet, with a pretty loose rhyming scheme of abab cdcd efef gg and the syllabic technique; pentametre.

SEASON OF WAR

WHAT HAS THE EARTH DONE TO EARN THIS ASSAULT?

ARMY OF MOIST PELLETS PLUNGING AHEAD

THEIR SWORDS DREADED BY THE STRONGEST OF ALL

SENT BY ARES HIMSELF TO FREE OUR LAND

OLD AND YOUNG, WEAK AND STRONG, COY AND DARING

ALL, SOUGHT ABODE FROM THE WRATH OF THEIR LORD

A WRATH THAT BROUGHT WITH IT, COUNTLESS BLESSINGS

THE FIT FLED, THE CRIPPLED RAN EVEN MORE

A DESCENT SO STRONG, ALL TURN PURITAN

WIGS WENT ON RECESS, PANTS WENT TRUNCATED

A DELUGE THAT OVERRULES KINGLY PLANS

WORKS ARE AVOIDED, MEETINGS ABSCONDED

MOTHER NATURE, ROB US NOT OF THY RAGE

YET MAKE IT NOT MORE THAN WE ENVISAGE

THE DISCOVERY

image

THE DISCOVERY

MY VOLITION WAS NOT A PLAYER
IN THE WHETHER OF MY EXISTENCE
MY WILL WAS NOT CONSULTED
BEFORE IT WAS SUMMONED
MY PRESENCE

PULLED FROM MY LONG REPOSE
I BATTLED WITH THE RUSH OF RAY
PUSHED INTO THE ODDNESS OF THE COSMOS
I COULD NOT BUT BEHOLD

THE PIERCING PARABOLA ON DELIGHTED FACES
STRANGE VOICES THAT CAUSED ME FEAR
AN INVINCIBLE FORCE THAT GENTLY CARESSES
A NIGH OUTCRY PUNCTURING THE EAR

LOOKING, I SAW
HEARING, I MARVELLED
TOUCHING, I WAS AWED
STATIC, YET MILES I TRAVELLED

I SENSED THE ORDER IN THE DISORDERED STARS
THE MUSIC IN ORNITHOLOGICAL CACOPHONY
THE GRASSLAND WITH MY SILKY FEET
THE AROMA FROM ALL ENTITIES

I PLAYED, I CLIMBED, I DIVED
EVERY SECOND WAS LIKE MY LAST
EVERY SENSATION, I ENJOYED
NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD NOT LAST

I GREW, I THOUGHT, I KNEW
I WENT AHEAD
TO INFER WITH MY TINY HEAD
IF BEINGS COULD THIS MARVELOUS BE
THEN HOW MUCH SO IS HE WHO DESIGNED IT?

TO HIM I DEDICATED ALL MY STRIFE
WITH WHOSE WISDOM I EXIST
I SIPPED IN EVERY BIT OF LIFE
BEFORE FINALLY I STRIKED THE BUCKET

NATURE by QUEEN ESTHER OYEBODE

Let the mountain stand in pride,
let the oceans roll and tide,
let the trees wave their side,
fall in summer when they are dried.

Let the breeze reel and ride,
let the animals play and hide,
let the moon above us guide,
the groom to the arm of his bride.

Stars above us there reside,
like Gold, gold in our eyes divide,
let the earth where we abide,
give us good harvest dignified.

Green, green, green inside,
beautiful colours that we can’t hide,
sky and earth has solely replied,
natural beauty we show with pride.
